On 24 September 2026, the Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN) participated as a key stakeholder in the PReP 2.0 Kano State PET Recycling Roadmap Inception Workshop, held at Bonn Hotel, Kano.
The workshop was convened by TechnoServe, with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation, and facilitated by Vicinia Solutions Limited, bringing together key stakeholders to shape a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable PET recycling ecosystem in Kano State.

The WAPAN delegation was led by the National President, Comr. Salisu Ali Yarima, alongside Alh. Ali Yakasai, WAPAN Kano Coordinator Mal. Yusuf Sharada, and KANORA representative Abdullatif Gujiba.
Representing WAPAN on the panel, Mr. Khalifa Sani shared practical experiences and lessons from Nigeria’s National Plastics Roadmap, highlighting the importance of waste-picker formalisation, social and gender inclusion, sustainable livelihoods, occupational health and safety, and access to finance.
WAPAN also actively contributed to the working group sessions, providing inputs to review and validate the draft Kano State PET Recycling Roadmap, structured around three key thematic areas:
🔹 Policy and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
🔹 PET Value Chain Circularity and Market Development
🔹 Finance and Investment
WAPAN’s contributions emphasized the need to formally recognize waste pickers as essential actors within the recycling value chain, strengthen collection and aggregation infrastructure, expand market access, and create meaningful economic opportunities for women, youth and informal-sector workers.
We commend TechnoServe, The Coca-Cola Foundation, Vicinia Solutions Limited, and all participating stakeholders for advancing this important initiative and creating a platform for collaborative action toward a more inclusive circular economy in Kano State.
Together, we can build an inclusive, commercially viable and sustainable PET recycling ecosystem in Kano State.

Very good, WAPAN should keep it up
