Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN) Guiding Policy
Policy Statement:
WAPAN is committed to advocating for the rights, improving the working conditions, and promoting the interests of waste pickers in Nigeria. This policy serves as a guiding framework to ensure that WAPAN operates in a transparent, inclusive, and sustainable manner, while pursuing its mission and objectives.
- Respect and Dignity:
WAPAN is committed to treating all waste pickers with respect, dignity, and fairness. We promote an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment that values the contributions and diversity of waste pickers. - Advocacy and Representation:
WAPAN will actively advocate for the rights and welfare of waste pickers at local, national, and international levels. We will engage with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and industry bodies, to represent the interests of waste pickers and promote policies that support their livelihoods. - Capacity Building and Empowerment:
WAPAN recognizes the importance of continuous learning and skills development for waste pickers. We will provide access to training programs, workshops, and educational resources that empower waste pickers with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their work, safety, and overall well-being. - Sustainable Waste Management:
WAPAN is committed to promoting sustainable waste management practices, including recycling, reusing, and reducing waste.
