ABOUT US
About Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN)
The Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN)! is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the livelihoods and working conditions of waste pickers across Nigeria. Our mission is to promote sustainable waste management practices, advocate for the rights of waste pickers, and empower them to participate fully in society.
At WAPAN, we believe that waste pickers play an essential role in Nigeria’s waste management system, providing a valuable service that helps to reduce waste and promote recycling. However, waste pickers often face significant challenges, including low pay, unsafe working conditions, and discrimination.
Our organization was founded to address these challenges and promote the interests of waste pickers. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where waste pickers can access resources, education, and advocacy support. We work with waste pickers across Nigeria, from small towns to major cities, to ensure that they are included in discussions around waste management and decision-making processes that affect their livelihoods.
Our core values of inclusivity, empowerment, solidarity, sustainability, advocacy, transparency, education, and professionalism guide all of our work. We believe that these values are essential to promoting a sustainable and equitable waste management system in Nigeria.
At WAPAN, we are proud of our achievements in promoting the rights of waste pickers and advocating for sustainable waste management practices. We work closely with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to promote policies and regulations that support the interests of waste pickers and contribute to a more sustainable future.
