WAPAN LOST FINANCIAL SECRETARY.

In the early hours of 28th April, we received the shocking death of our beloved member in person of Alhaji Usman Bakawu . During his time, he has served amicably as the founding Coordinator North East and financial secretary of our great Association.

He’s been identified as a relentless and zealous change maker that works tirelessly to promote matters of recycling and waste management in his occupational pursuit.
We pray that Almighty Allah receive his soul in Jannah Firdaus, Ameen.

WAPAN & ABUJA URBAN LAB working visit to Lagos State

WAPAN was part of a delegation of the Abuja Urban Lab on a working visit to Lagos State to interact and study waste management with stakeholders. During the week long visit we visited LAWMA, LASEPA, Ikeja Local Government Council, Polysmart Recycling plant, LAWMA Composting Plant, WAPAN LAGOS Office and WAMASON office. In all we learnt that waste pickers are very well recognized and integrated in the waste management value chain in Lagos State. Kudos must go to our hardworking Coordinator in Lagos State Comrade Franklyn Adebisi for the great job he is doing for waste pickers and WAPAN in general. The visit has opened up more opportunities to scale up our advocacy and strategy for the betterment of waste pickers in Nigeria. Among the site visited were; 10-storey Olusosun landfill in Lagos… during the NILE UNIVERSITY/GIZ/EU sponsored Abuja Urban Lab working visit to Lagos State.

The delegation represented the voice of waste pickers, highlighting their crucial role in driving environmental sustainability and promoting circular economy practices in Nigeria.

The event provided an excellent platform for WAPAN to engage with key stakeholders, share our experiences, and advocate for greater inclusion of informal waste pickers in climate action initiatives. We are proud of the contributions made by our delegation and the valuable insights shared during the forum.
