On behalf of the President and Executive Committee of the Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN), the General Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Adama, presented a special WAPAN souvenir to Ms. Vanessa Vovor, Project Manager for the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) and the Abuja Urban Lab Project. This memorable occasion took place at the Istanbul Restaurant, Abuja, in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the success of the Abuja Urban Lab Project.

Ms. Vovor’s leadership and commitment have been instrumental in ensuring the recognition of waste pickers as a vital component of efficient waste management in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Her efforts have not only advanced the goals of the Urban Lab initiative but have also highlighted the critical role of waste pickers in fostering sustainable waste management and circular economy practices.

The souvenir presentation reflects WAPAN’s appreciation for Ms. Vovor’s dedication to inclusivity and collaboration, which have strengthened partnerships and empowered the waste picker community in Abuja. Under her guidance, the Abuja Urban Lab Project has set a precedent for integrating informal waste workers into formal waste governance frameworks.
