On August 19th, 2024, the Alliance for Responsible Battery Recycling (ARBR), in collaboration with the Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), continued its nationwide engagement and sensitization program in Lagos and Ogun States. Led by Executive Secretary Mrs. Miranda Amachree, the event took place at the NERDC Conference Centre in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos State.
WAPAN was proudly represented by Mr. Franklyn Adebisi, Lagos State Coordinator, and Mrs. Joy Esiulo, Ogun State Coordinator, who spearheaded efforts to promote sustainable and responsible battery waste management in Nigeria.

On August 20th, 2024, the ARBR team, alongside WAPAN’s representatives, conducted a field inspection and distributed 100 sets of PPEs to informal battery waste pickers—50 sets per state. This initiative aims to enhance the safety and health of these workers, while supporting their role in creating a safer and more sustainable environment.
We applaud Mrs. Miranda Amachree’s dedicated efforts with ARBR as a Producer Responsible Organization, striving to make a meaningful impact on the lives of waste pickers. WAPAN remains committed to supporting ARBR’s mission and working together to advance responsible battery recycling practices across Nigeria.
